Our food choices matter
Each year, every Swede consumes around 800 kg of food and drink. About a quarter of the greenhouse gas emissions that Swedish consumption causes comes from what we eat. But food also affects the environment in other ways besides the climate.

Food waste – an unnecessary environmental impact
In Sweden approximately 30 kg of fully edible food per person is thrown away each year. In terms of money, that is the equivalent of a monthly cost of a food basket. This is bad – not only for the economy but also for the environment, since the environmental impact that results from that production of food is in vain.
